HARVARD ARAB WORLD CONFERENCE 2017

OVERVIEW

The Harvard Arab Alumni Association (“HAAA”) is delighted to invite you to attend our 12th annual Harvard Arab World Conference, which will be held in the Dead Sea, Jordan on Saturday,  11th March , 2017 at the Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea. This conference is open to both Harvard and non-Harvard affiliates.

BUILDING TOMORROW

Under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the 12th Annual Harvard Arab World Conference (HAWC) will be held in the Dead Sea, Jordan on March 11, 2017. The theme of this year’s HAWC will be “BUILDING TOMORROW” and will explore initiatives across the region that are currently (re)shaping the face of the Arab world. The HAWC proposes several panels that bring together multi-disciplinary leaders to discuss the region’s tomorrow for future generations in healthcare, education, entrepreneurship, policy, and law. The conference will ask how the region and its people can harness its collective power to drive positive change and how can the rising generation of Arabs leverage current and emerging resources to inspire transformation. The conference will also include a startup pitch competition to show-case and support regional startups. On March 10, HAAA will host a free Harvard admission seminar for Jordanian high school students and graduate students and a networking event for its conference attendees. This year’s program features several exciting components:

Saturday, March 11

Conference (8am-7pm): Join us for a day of thought-provoking panels and addresses by many of the region’s most inspiring leaders where participants and panelists will debate critical topics.

Gala Dinner (8:30pm-10:30pm): Join us for the closing Gala Dinner (location TBD).

Please send an email to the HAAA Program Director, Imane Karroumi (harvardarabalumni@gmail.com) if you have any questions about the upcoming event. We look forward to welcoming you to Jordan!!

THE ARAB WORLD CONFERENCE

Each year, HAAA hosts two world-class conferences: the Harvard Arab Weekend (HAW) on the Harvard campus, now the largest Arab conference in North America with nearly 1300 attendees, and the Harvard Arab World Conference (HAWC) at a different Arab city each year. Past conferences were held in Tunis, Abu Dhabi, Amman, Cairo, Damascus, Doha and Dubai, with over 400 attendees at the last conference. The 10th Annual HAWC was held in Morocco in March 2015. These conferences bring together hundreds of Harvard alumni, faculty, and societal leaders to discuss key issues related to the region and serve to heighten awareness of issues facing the Arab world and increase dialogue around important topics facing the Arab world. Our conferences are open to the public, and the majority of our prior attendees were not Harvard alumni. The conference is expected to be attended by 400 leading professionals from the Middle East, Europe and the US.
